When do you lie?
I shocked myself the other day at my job. And it wasn’t a nice, surprising, happy feeling – it was a gut-wrenching, sickening one that I can recall right now just writing this. As some of my posts may reflect, I’ve been under some stress lately. Some of it’s job related (extra hours at the cab company, a big contract we’re waiting to win at my full-time job) and some of it’s my home life (wedding invites and I won’t … Continue reading
Keeping the faith
Warning: This is a self-indulgent whining session. Don’t ask me why I take it out on my beloved readers, y’all just seem sympathetic and I’m in need of some emotional support from my audience. To put it bluntly: I’m freakin’ tired. I’m tired of working seven days a week, I’m tired of the mess that my house has become (Future Husband is a god at doing dishes, he knows better than to try to straighten any of my messes – … Continue reading
A good article
This is an i-Report from CNN.com. In the story, the husband got laid off from his $55,000 a year managerial position. His wife laid it on the line: “Deliver pizzas or we’ll go into debt.” And so … he did. I marvel at the lengths people will go to make ends meet – and how so many people face unemployment with such grace and integrity.
Desperately seeking: Answers!
Thanks to Emily and Moonlight for asking some pretty awesome questions. It’s kind of funny, my first career was in journalism where I asked the questions and expected people to provide me answers. It’s kind of flattering to be on the other end and hope that I don’t bore you too silly with my random thought process. There are a couple of questions that need some time and other peoples’ input before I can answer them. Specifically, Emily’s question on … Continue reading
I swear I’ve been a good girl, Mr. IRS
OK – the first time that I ever really had to pay in a substantial amount to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), it was my own damn fault. I had cashed in my 401k the year before to pay off some credit card debt and I got hit on the front end of the “bargain” and then again in April when it was time to pay the tax man. As I drove home from my tax appointment, I called my … Continue reading
Desperately seeking: Ideas!
OK – I don’t know if it is the thrill of the inauguration, wedding stress getting to me, the cold that’s (still) kicking my arse or the alignment of the solar system but if my brain was a sponge that was wet with ideas, the great hand of the Muse has wrung it dry for the time being. Maybe it’s not that bad, but I would appreciate any topics that you all would like to read about. You can go … Continue reading
Sorry to be incommunicado …
… Future Husband and I took a road trip this weekend to Des Moines to spend some time with FH’s sis-in-law and his grandma. The trip down and the drive back reminded me of an important part that I left off of the winter driving manifesto that I penned last week – for the love of Pete – if the roads are icy, drive carefully! We counted 28 vehicles in the ditch on the way back – two of which … Continue reading
What would you do with $400?
For 1 ½ years now, I’ve been moonlighting on weekends at my community’s cab company where I typically pull morning shifts as a phone operator – setting up cabs for my community’s church-goers, the people who found themselves in strange situations after bar time, travelers who come to my town to access the Mayo Clinic and my home’s wide variety of humanity that range from elderly and sweet, young and impatient, some folks who don’t speak much English – some … Continue reading
Winter Car Care
Sometimes I have a hard time figuring out what I’m going to write about, but today’s topic kind of fell out of the sky as the Rattling Death Trap (RDT) and I sat idling on the side of the road a couple of houses down from our abode. In a nutshell, it is about 25 below zero today in southeast Minnesota and my car was letting its angst known! The RDT sits overnight in a lean-to which keeps most weather … Continue reading
