Go here for a coupon for a free Suave product (up to $3 value). This is one day only and today is that day! Thanks to Linsey at WiseBread for providing me with daily deals. Today is also the last day to download Suze Orman’s latest book. Actually, I stand corrected – the deadline for that is tomorrow.

Could you give up cable?

Last week, Wise Bread featured an article that talked about how “easy” it is to give up cable when there are so many other options to get your TV fix out on the Internet or through alternative means like Netflix. While reading this article, I remember a conversation I recently had with my friend Edie – a stay-at-home mom who recently gave up cable. The bold parts are my questions and Edie’s answers are below. Why did you give up … Continue reading

Dieting on a budget

The first full week of 2009 has come to a close and my mind has turned to dieting – I’ve even bought used books on the Sonoma diet and the Structure House diet. One tells me what kind of foods I should eat to drop about 10 pounds in 10 days (yes, I know this is unhealthy) and the other one tells me the psychology behind why I eat (uh … I get stressed and I consume food … I … Continue reading

Off the Savings Wagon

It’s 9 a.m. at the cab company and these quiet moments find me happily perusing a PDF of the Hyvee weekly savings. I gotta tell you – it’s been awhile. Blame it on stress, blame it on the holidays – but I’ve been pretty bad at shopping for deals lately. But since Jif’s on sale and I’m 99% sure there’s a coupon lurking somewhere in a dusty pile, I’m glad to be back on the saving wagon.

Resolution Malarkey: Part II

Yesterday, I shared this questionnaire from Smile Therapy and Part One of my answers. If you’re new to this train of thought – look at yesterday’s to get the background on why this questionnaire is so awesome and how it can help you make meaningful resolutions. The questions: *How would you rate both your physical and mental health? *Are your relationships functioning the way you’d like? (spouse, significant other, friends, family) *How would you rate your work situation and / … Continue reading

Feelings of Guilt! More wedding madness

Future Husband and I are going to go wedding ring shopping this weekend and one of his co-workers suggested checking out Sam’s Club. Yes – I know all of the liberal arguments against the evil empire built by Sam Walton (I’ve probably waged part of them), but I’m not adverse to finding a deal on stuff that I’m kind of obligated to buy. Being the industrious person that I am, I hopped onto the Sam’s website quick to take a … Continue reading

More Resolution Malarkey

I’m going to break this post into two parts, otherwise your eyes are going to cross because I’m so darn long-winded. I was cleaning up some emails the other day and found this article by Myscha Theriault at Wise Bread. Ms. Theriault’s premise in this article was that yes, it’s important to make resolutions for a new year, but its almost as important to make sure that the resolutions you choose somehow fit in the larger picture of your life … Continue reading

To shower or not to shower – that is the question

And no … I’m not talking about my daily grooming necessity of attempting to drown myself until I’m somewhat coherent in the morning. I’m getting married in April and I brought up the idea of a bridal shower at around Thanksgiving. My mom gave me a look. “What?” I said. “Well, honey, it’s just that you’re so unconventional, I didn’t think you’d want a bridal shower,” was my wedding planner/mom’s response. I’ve been somewhat delirious as of late due to … Continue reading

Desperate times call for salary cuts

CNNMoney.com recently had an interesting article about high salaried executives who have been laid off in our struggling economy and are now taking massive pay cuts to get back into the working world. “Life After A Six-Figure Salary” was an interesting article to me. A) I don’t know if I’ll ever see a six-figure salary in my lifetime and B) Sometimes that relieves me – especially when those are the sexiest people to lay off when a company is struggling. … Continue reading

Sniffling Your Way to Work

There was a woman I worked with awhile back and it did not matter if she was vomiting, feverish, in mortal pain or just had a sniffle – she would be sitting in her cubicle, glowering at whoever was unfortunate enough to have to ask her a question. One day when we were working together, she was almost in tears because she felt so poorly. And I snapped at her, “Julie, if you feel so terrible – go home. Seriously, … Continue reading
