Even Sesame Street isn’t immune …
I found this blog post today and thought it was pretty funny.
A cheap way to do some good
I’ve noticed a trend in my life and my thinking … I get frustrated and I second guess myself the most when I feel that I’m being ineffective. Now that can be in any facet of my life … it could be because of a proposal I write at work that feels incomplete or rushed due to other deadlines; the stack of unread books by my bedside; the relationships I neglect because of the upcoming wedding and my crazy work … Continue reading
Gardening update
OK – March hasn’t been the banner year that I want it to be in terms of my gardening progress. But hey – I got some Roma tomatoes started, so that’s a small start. Here’s the spreadsheet that I’ve started. I guess what I’m trying to accomplish in this inaugural year is to see how much it costs to grow my garden and how much I get in return. So far I’ve spent $16.29 on gardening supplies – this includes … Continue reading
Cheap eats, recession style
One of the things that I’ve noticed about the crazy economic state that our country is currently in, is that our plight has us looking backwards into history and appreciating what our ancestors did when money was tight. I’m something of a foodie (Jimmy John’s addiction nonwithstanding) and in a lot of the cooking blogs that I frequent, I’ve noticed a trend where cooks are going back to their grandma’s trusty recipes and making “recession” recipes. I’m not an expert … Continue reading
Deeeeeep thoughts …
I had a revelation last night about marriage that I told to my Future Husband – after April 18th, our successes and our failures in life will be irrevocably tied together. And I’m gonna be honest with everyone here … that scares the piss out of me. FH and I are at a weird time in our lives right now – we love each other dearly and we’re hurtling toward our wedding day, which will be one of the happiest … Continue reading
Updates …
I keep running across interesting articles that I want to share with all of you, but they are marooned in my inbox, lost somewhere between the constant emails I get from wedding vendors (I will be unsubscribing from ALL things wedding related soon! As in 25 days!); the Facebook messages; the cooking emails I subscribe to, etc. I’m hoping that life will slow down soon so I can write coherent and helpful articles. The credit cards are at $4,665. I … Continue reading
Shopping locally
A link to this article was in my email today and since it mentioned the name of the town that I most recently lived in before moving to Rochester, I couldn’t help but read it. Northfield is an interesting community and when I lived there, I had the joy of working downtown which meant that I tended to shop locally more often than making it to the outskirts of town to pick up various items. The gist of the article … Continue reading
“The Plan”
My buddy W serves as an inspiration to me. We met while working at the cab company and we’ve continued to be close friends even though he now works at another job. Why is W inspiring? Well, he’s had a lifelong struggle with his weight and he’s been working his ass off (literally) to drop pounds from his frame. He does this with humor and with tenacity. He’s also one of those people who seems to find inspiration everywhere and … Continue reading
Keep foods fresh longer
Keeping vegetables fresh has always been something of a Waterloo for me … I’ve finally figured out how to keep celery crisp for longer (oddly enough, thanks to a dumb email forward that someone sent me contrasting Martha Stewart vs. Maxine), but I found this article the other day when I was going through my email inbox and thought I’d share – from storing onions to mushrooms, this is a valuable article.
