Due to some unforseen illness in my immediate family (my father had stomach flu like you wouldn’t believe), Future Husband and I ended up staying in my hometown’s lone hotel on Friday night before the bridal shower. (Because the manager is a distant relative, we even got a discount – sweet!)
On Saturday while I was waiting for my mom to take me to church, I found myself killing time in the hotel lobby looking at travel brochures. First and foremost – my hometown is not known for its tourism – it’s a farming community that boasts one stoplight, a handful of bars, a couple of grocery stores and lots of youths “scooping the loop” at night – making a lazy circle around my town’s scant downtown. (I used to do this too – this was when gas was .99 a gallon … ah nostalgia.).
Anyway – I picked up a handful of various brochures (one even involved an art crawl in southeastern Minnesota where I live) and started thinking about how many opportunities there are for entertainment in a person’s backyard.
Part of the reason that I grabbed the brochures was to research ideas for things to do for people if they get into town early on our wedding weekend, but I got some good ideas for Future Husband and I. It’s just a matter of looking in your own backyard.

Nice post. Have you ever heard of geocaching? If you haven’t – google it. I can almost guarantee there are literally hundreds of caches within a few minutes drive of you (no matter where you are). All you need is a GPS and an internet connection. Good cheap fun.
Check my blog out later and I’ll post how Lyndsey and I (married > 20 years) have fun with this.
Good luck with the wedding.
Bill – I’ve heard of geocaching and it sounds like so much fun! Can’t wait to see your blog!
Michelle – it is great fun. Heres the post: http://www.mccollam.com/jakeblog/?p=101
