Aliens did not abduct me, the closet ate me?

Wow, I have been lax at writing … so first and foremost, sincere apologies. I swear that I was not the victim of an alien abduction. Debt collectors did not spirit me away either. I was abducted by summer. :) But now, summer is winding down so I have returned from my mental vacation and am back to bother you all with my random ramblings.

On the debt front – I am well on my way to being done with the credit card debt by November. I’ve been pretty diligent about making my $200 a week extra payment towards my debt and utilizing Dave Ramsey’s “snowball effect.” By the end of September, I’ll be under the $2,000 mark (estimated at $1,800) and will be crossing this finish line well before Thanksgiving and right in time for Christmas. :) It’s kind of funny – I have my credit card balances on a Google Docs spreadsheet and when I open it, I will crunch the numbers to see if there’s any way to finish BEFORE November. But given I’ve missed a couple of weekends at the cab company (last week was a cousin’s wedding, this weekend the Hubby and I traveled to see family in Iowa) and short of some unexpected funds, I’m on track for the November deadline. Instead of getting frustrated, I remind myself that time has been flying recently and soon the extra money I’m plowing towards debt will be plowed into my savings account.

Anyway – as I’m getting my financial house in order, I’m finding that it’s time to get some other stuff in order as well. And as if the gods of the Internet have read my mind, there have been a ton of articles lately about organizing closets and de-cluttering your household. And yes my friends, that is a little of what I hope to accomplish today.

Here’s some sources of inspiration:

J.D. at Get Rich Slowly updates his readers on his “war on Stuff.” – I’ve been reading J.D.’s blog for over a year now and I envy his financial freedom. But one of the things that I’ve enjoyed about J.D. is that we have a similar background when it comes to what got us into debt. Mindlessly buying STUFF.

And here’s a series of articles from my girl Oprah. She knows that fall is the time for readers to shift stuff in their closets. :) This is a surprising way to clean up clutter. And here are “12 ways to unclutter your life.”

I’ll let you know how far I got. :) Have a wonderful Labor Day.
